THE CRACKLÈ VASES COLLECTION - The Venice Glass Week 2026
For this edition of Venice Glass Week, Giberto Venezia presents Cracklè, a new series of vases born from an extensive process of technical experimentation and a deep dialogue with Murano’s centuries-old glassmaking tradition.
The collection takes inspiration from ghiaccio (ice glass), one of the most celebrated innovations of Renaissance Murano.
In the sixteenth century, master glassmakers discovered that immersing a still-glowing glass object into cold water would create a delicate network of surface fractures, producing a texture that evoked the appearance of ice. Building on this historic technique, designer Giberto Arrivabene and master glassmaker Gianni Seguso, with the consultancy of art historian and curator Cristina Beltrami, pushed the process further, subjecting the glass to multiple immersions in water. The result is a strikingly irregular, faceted surface hat captures and refracts light in unexpected ways.
Depending on the angle and the quality of light, the vase appears almost encrusted with diamonds, transforming transparency into a dynamic play of reflections. This unique effect is made possible by the courage and expertise of Gianni Seguso, who embraced the challenge of pushing the material to its physical limits. Within the glass, tiny air bubbles formed during the process become part of a crystalline texture that seems traversed by shards of light.
The surface, seemingly covered in crystal flakes, plays with the contrast of the stopper, crafted from perfectly smooth, polished amethyst glass. Each piece is further distinguished by the presence of a teardrop detail, an iconic signature recurring throughout Giberto Arrivabene’s designs.
With a natural talent for combining artistry and virtuosity, JoAnn Tan is a storyteller who evokes dreams and emotions through distinctive installations and window displays that showcase the world’s most desirable products. A uniquely talented artist known for her 360-degree theory-to-practice approach, Tan skillfully turns ideas into visually impactful works of art that are a true “feast for the eyes”.
Her diverse portfolio of clients spans the realms of fashion, design, and lifestyle, including Hermès, Dior, Fendi, Loro Piana, Ferragamo, Valextra, La DoubleJ, Globe-Trotter, Ginori1735, and Acqua di Parma. Committed to sustainability, she ensures that her installations have a minimal environmental impact through cradle-to-grave thinking, eco-friendly materials, and repurposing props.
For her namesake artworks, Tan explores thought-provoking themes such as aging, death, and decay: through meticulously handcrafted small sculptures she brings these concepts to life. I am particularly interested in transforming people’s perception of these unsightly subjects by applying the same intense craftsmanship usually reserved for ‘beautiful’ objects,” says Tan.
She presented “After the Feast”, her first solo exhibition during Milan Art Week 2026, and now, on the occasion of Venice Glass Week, Giberto Arrivabene has commissioned her to create a site-specific installation that dialo-gues with his Cracklè Vases Collection presented for the occasion.
