Beyond glass
Beyond glass
For Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga, the fascination with objects began long before the creation of his glass collections. Growing up surrounded by historic interiors, collections, and family heirlooms, he developed an early sensitivity to the beauty of objects from the past: small masterpieces of craftsmanship that once populated everyday life. Frames resting on writing desks, letter openers carved from precious materials, switches designed with elegance and intention. Objects conceived with a level of care and complexity that far exceeded their simple function.
These treasures, often modest in scale yet extraordinary in detail, shaped his eye and his imagination. They revealed a world where craftsmanship, design, and daily rituals were inseparable.
Today, that world continues to inspire the creations of Giberto Venezia, expanding the brand’s universe beyond glass into a broader exploration of materials, artisanship, and decorative objects.
Reinterpreting the Language of the Past
Many of these pieces begin with an observation: an antique frame discovered in a historic house, a small desk accessory from another century, or a forgotten domestic object whose beauty lies in its proportions and detail.
Rather than reproducing these objects, Giberto reimagines them: redrawing their lines, adjusting their scale, and introducing new materials, while preserving the quiet elegance that defined the originals. The result is a series of creations that feel both timeless and contemporary, rooted in tradition yet perfectly suited to modern interiors.
Materials in Dialogue
While Murano glass remains central to the identity of Giberto Venezia, these objects reveal another dimension of the designer’s vision: the dialogue between different noble materials and artisanal traditions.
Velvet frames combine the softness and depth of textile with refined handcrafted details created alongside Murano artisans.
Stone frames introduce the solidity and natural character of mineral surfaces, enriched by the work of skilled Italian silversmiths.
Small frames in rock crystal capture and refract light with exceptional clarity, transforming intimate photographs or drawings into luminous displays.
Even the most discreet objects, from paperknives to decorative light switches, are designed with the same attention normally reserved for jewelry or fine decorative arts, elevating everyday gestures with craftsmanship and beauty.
The Craft Behind the Object
Each piece is the result of collaborations with specialized Italian artisans, whose techniques and knowledge continue centuries of tradition. Every material is chosen for its tactile and visual qualities, but also for how it interacts with others: velvet absorbing light, crystal reflecting it, stone grounding the composition, silver adding a subtle brilliance. Through these combinations, each object becomes a small study in balance and proportion, where design and craftsmanship meet.
Beyond Glass
These creations reveal another soul of Giberto Venezia. Alongside the renowned Murano glass collections exists a quieter universe of precious everyday objects, inspired by the decorative language of the past and reinterpreted for the present. They are objects designed not simply to serve a function, but to enrich the spaces and rituals of daily life, carrying forward the spirit of those historic treasures that first shaped Giberto’s imagination.
