A tribute to Venice and its stripes, to the gondoliers rowing through the canals, singing Santa Lucia, to the bricole that sprout from the fertile lagoon and grow tall in front of the Palazzi, the Gondola glass is Giberto’s quintessential expression of Venetianness.
The lagoon green and crystal glass play in fun contrast amongst each other, first hiding and then revealing the vibrant red of the spritz with Select, the quintessential Venetian liquor. The Select was born in 1920 in Castello, the historical residential neighborhood located “on the fish’s tail”, near the Arsenale. You can drink it straight or mix it with soda or seltz. Or, why not?, use it to create your own special drink, a cocktail to remind you of those romantic lagoon nights to sip in your favorite Gondola glass, handmade in Murano.
The Designer
The life of Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga is viscerally linked to Venice. His childhood memories, the most beautiful, are those that have taken place in the rooms of Palazzo Papadopoli, between frescoes of Tiepolo and family affection. “In my earliest memories Venice had other colours. It was more obscure, dramatic, decayed and deeply romantic – simply beautiful. There wasn’t the same light like there is today – more dazzling perhaps, but less poetic.”
Craftmanship
Each piece derives from a watercolour sketch made by Giberto on tracing paper: “When I see something that inspires me, or an object that I like, I sketch and rework it – then move on to the realization of it.”
The glass, the main material in the collections, is worked exclusively in Murano. Each glass, each specific object, is blown by master glassmakers in the Venetian furnaces.
